Quinta de Foz de Arouce
These are wines with a deep soul, earthly in their attachment to the land and traditions, unique and inimitable wines.” – Rui Falcão, Público, 2014
Quinta de Foz de Arouce is located in the municipality of Lousã, in the Beiras region. It is surrounded by the foothills of the Lousã and Penela mountains and is bathed by the Arouce and Ceira rivers. Ancient documents kept in the house refer to the property as belonging to the family since the 18th century. Wine production at Quinta intertwines with the history and demarcation of the property, being today, like the cellar, the only one known in the region.
The Viticultural Year 2018/2019 was characterized by significant fluctuations in temperature and lower annual rainfall than normal. Harvest began in the third week of September, extending into October. The harvest provided musts of high quality, generally with higher acidity, lower alcohol, and a good level of phenolic compounds. Grapes from 81-year-old vines were hand-harvested in small crates to preserve the quality of the fruit.
Vinification: Total destemming and fermentation in a lagar with foot treading. Long post-fermentation maceration. Malolactic fermentation in barrels.
Aging: In French oak barrels for a period of 14 months.
Bottling: May 2022.
Limited edition of 3526 bottles.
Winemaker: João Perry Vidal.
A cellar-worthy wine that pairs wonderfully with a duck breast on a nest of spinach puree, with figs from the estate.
