Antonio Galloni, tasting note published in July 11th 1905

Ama's 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista is a true marvel. Dark and sombre on its first impression, the 2016 flows out of the glass with explosive vertical lift. This structured and powerful Chianti Classico won't be ready to drink anytime soon, but it holds immense promise. Aromatic herbs, crushed stones, chalk and dried flowers add a myriad of layers of dimension. The 2016 is complex, full of nuance and made to be kept.2026 - 2041

Castello di Ama

The Bellavista vineyard has a surface area of 22.82 hectares, of which 9.30 were replanted between 1974 and 1978 and 13.52 in 2007. The 22 plots of land were terraced to improve exposure and ensure more uniform ripening. In the best vintages, plots 1 to 19 of Malvasia Nera and plots 21 and 22 of Sangiovese contribute most to the production of this selection of vines.
Each grape variety is vinified with environmental yeasts in steel vats at a controlled temperature of 30-33 °C
Manual rackings for 22 days for Sangiovese and 26 days for Malvasia Nera, total cuvaison.
The wines are transferred separately to barrels for malolactic fermentation and then blended.
Aging: 18% new fine grain oak barrels, the rest used, for 10 months

Castello di Ama

Castello di Ama is located 12 kilometres north-east of Siena, on the hills of Gaiole. This is the heart of Chianti Classico, a bucolic rolling landscape of woods, vineyards and olive groves. The estate is owned and managed by husband and wife team, Marco Pallanti and Lorenza Sebasti. Over the last quarter century, they have replanted all the vineyards and improved all the winemaking capabilities to make this estate one of the most important producers in Tuscany.
