O Produtor, tasting note published in November 10th 2021

In 2015, winemaker Joana Pinhão reconverted the 4 hectares of family vineyard, focusing on different national and international grape varieties. In 2019 he launched the first wine of the Casal das Aires project.

The Casal das Aires project represents Jona’s return to his origins, the Tagus region, focused on his interpretations of different grape varieties, in the different terroirs of the region. Produced on the Charneca Ribatejana terroir in clay soil, vinified in used French oak barrels of 225L and aged for 9 months

During vinification, the grapes were de-stemmed and fermented in a lagar. The wine aged in used French oak barrels for 18 months.

Casal das Aires

The Casal das Aires project is the result of the search for a new expression of Tejo, a fresher, more elegant Tejo. This search, based on the experience we have gained, is reflected in the first two wines we have created to make this dream come true, Casal das Aires Pinot Noir and Casal das Aires Chardonnay. Our vineyards are located in Charneca, in the municipality of Alpiarça, on silty soils, and we favour small production over quantity. Our aim is always to preserve the region’s wine-growing ecosystem.
