Dr. Loosen
The Dr. Loosen Graacher Riesling is harvested from younger vines among the breathtaking multi-colored slate slopes of the Mosel river near the village of Graach, in the Grosse Lage region; its power and complexity surprisingly approach GG (Große Gewächse/Grand Cru) quality, but this classification is only used for vines over 30-35 years old.
The stony soil and numerous rocky outcroppings of the Mosel warm the vineyards by reflecting sunlight and holding the heat of the day. This creates very warm microclimates in the best sites and helps ensure excellent ripeness.
Fermented with native yeasts and aged for 12 months on the full yeast in traditional German oak barrels, it is a wine to which the dark and multicolored slate soil lends a firm mineral structure and notes of herbs, pronounced flavors of citrus, and stone fruits.
It is extremely approachable and fruity, with an elegant and mineral finish, making it an ideal food pairing wine.
