O Produtor, tasting note published in November 29th 2021

This pure Sangiovese reveals an expressive nose, true to the vintage’s fresh character, with floral aromas — roses and violets — followed by notes of cypress and fresh rosemary. On the palate, ripe raspberries dominate, with hints of vanilla bean. The mouthfeel is complex, featuring soft tannins and vibrant acidity — a classic Sangiovese hallmark. The finish is marked by noticeable minerality, with lingering notes of orange peel and cedarwood. The balance between acidity, fruit and earthy tones perfectly expresses the terroir of this region.

Tenuta di Arceno

For centuries, the finest Sangiovese has been produced in the Chianti Classico region, nestled in the hills of Tuscany. Our estate, Tenuta di Arceno, lies among these hills and is the birthplace of this special Sangiovese wine. Caring meticulously for the vines, listening to the message of the soil and respecting the natural expression of the grape allows us to craft wines that reflect the unique character of Tenuta di Arceno.

Vintage notes – Chianti Classico 2020
The 2020 vintage was considered ideal. A mild, dry winter was followed by a spring with abundant rainfall. Summer brought warm days and significantly cooler nights, helping preserve the wine’s acidity and aromatics. With excellent fruit set and minimal extreme weather events, 2020 proved to be a well-balanced vintage, with moderate alcohol, vibrant fruit and elegant tannins. The grapes for this Gran Selezione were picked at optimal ripeness between October 2nd and 5th.

Tenuta di Arceno S.r.l. - Società Agricola

Tenuta di Arceno is an ancient Tuscan estate renowned for producing high-quality wines across two classification levels. Its portfolio includes three wines focused on the native Sangiovese grape within the Chianti Classico DOCG collection, and three wines showcasing international varieties under the Toscana IGT designation.

Situated at the southernmost edge of Chianti Classico, in the butterfly-shaped commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, Tenuta di Arceno is closest to Siena and is often called “the most Senese Chianti Classico.” The estate neighbors other world-renowned producers and is stylistically distinct from those located further north.

The estate spans 1,000 hectares (2,500 acres), of which 92 hectares (220 acres) are dedicated to vineyards, while the remaining land preserves native vegetation, including 50 hectares (125 acres) of olive groves. The vineyards are divided into 63 distinct blocks planted evenly with 50% Sangiovese and 50% international varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Overlooking the vineyards is the ancient walled town of San Gusmè, providing a stunning historic backdrop. Winemaking at Tenuta di Arceno dates back to the 16th century. The estate lies near the confluence of two rivers — the Ambra, flowing north toward Florence, and the Ombrone, flowing south toward Grosseto — an area once central to Etruscan civilization. The name “Arceno” honors this heritage, derived from the Etruscan word archè, meaning “point of origin.”

Philosophy
Pierre Seillan, the founding winemaker, describes himself as a “servant of the soil,” valuing the pure and unique expression of each individual site. The micro-cru philosophy divides the vineyard into 63 small parcels based on specific terroir, soil, and climatic conditions, allowing for tailored care, harvesting, and vinification. Only at the final stage do these micro-crus come together to create complex, balanced wines that faithfully reflect the diversity of the land.
