O Produtor, tasting note published in August 15th 2022

It is a unique and unoaked blend of the main grape varieties from Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo — Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, and Tinto Cão — a wine with an authentic and intense flavor that demonstrates it doesn't need oak to be sophisticated. However, it's not just the unique taste experienced in a generous glass of wine that interests us; it's also its ruby color and youthful, exuberant, and mineral aroma — a magnificent balance between fruit, dense structure, and alcohol that proves the Douro's character can fit entirely within a bottle of wine, with an outstanding richness and volume.

In Portugal, this wine is always one of the finest examples of unoaked wines, a promise that can be enjoyed early or kept in the cellar to evolve for another five to seven years.

2021 was a year of some climatic instability, once again demonstrating that vineyard knowledge and human experience are essential. Throughout the vegetative cycle, the cool year with a not-too-hot summer and a harvest with some precipitation will be remembered. Natural conditions and cool nights contributed to a slow and gradual ripening, favoring grape balance and preserving primary aromas, a succulent texture, and sparkling freshness.

Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo

Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora do Carmo is a place of extreme beauty in the heart of Douro valley and owned by Amorim family since 1999.
The family connection to the wine comes from afar, through its connection with the export houses of Vila Nova de Gaia in the cork business. Meanwhile the dream came true and the project is now in the hands of the 4th generation of the family.
With a story longer than 250 years, the property displays conserved structures and the cellar original building from 1764, after interventions by the architect Arnaldo Barbosa.
But the «quinta» is much earlier than this and history confirms it as a great land belonging to the Portuguese Royal House, having been identified its first owner in 1725.
The winery produced more than 3,500 barrels of wine from neighboring estates and it was soon ‘integrated in the first demarcation of the region’. The historic sites that are still preserved give notice to this historic weight.
An entrepreneur spirit and family vision did however the difference because, combined with a passionate commitment to the future, determined the beginning of multiple changes to a path of oenological excellence.
