O Produtor, tasting note published in February 23rd 2020

Garnet in colour, it has an aroma of black fruit and wild berries, wood spices and hints of green tea. Soft flavour, balanced acidity, long fruit perception. Long and elegant aftertaste.

Biogrape

At Biogrape we produce wines that make us proud as producers by respecting the environment, taking care of the land where we have our vineyards and intervening as little as possible in the winery, in order to give consumers a natural product of great quality.
The red grape varieties are grown in one of the last DOC Alentejo sub-regions to be formed, south of Évora, near the village of Torre de Coelheiros, on Vinea Maria’s 10 hectares, on poor granite soils, in an area of strong thermal amplitudes. Its very small yields always allow for enormous quality consistency.
Bucelas is the birthplace of white and sparkling wines. Wine production in this region dates back to the Roman era, but its international fame came after the Duke of Wellington discovered its quality during the Peninsular War (1808-1814). It was thanks to him that large quantities of wine began to be exported to the United Kingdom, where it eventually became a fashionable drink in London. North of Lisbon, in the Trancão River Valley, this Demarcated Region has been producing unique wines in small quantities since 1911, just like the Carcavelos and Colares regions.
In our vineyards, the soil is fertilised with broad beans, rye and oats that we plant between the rows. The ecological corridors of laurel, lavender, pomegranate and strawberry trees attract auxiliary insects such as ladybirds, which help to control any diseases and pests that may appear. Pruning is carried out with the utmost care and the vineyard is constantly monitored.
We believe that the land gives us back everything we give it and that’s why we must use it with respect. This is the only way to produce top quality products. For all these reasons, we believe that the future of agriculture lies in returning to the past and maintaining a different relationship with the land, which supports everything we produce.
“We make wines for those who, when they drink them, feel the same pleasure that we feel when we make them.
