Lourinhã
A bit of history
Early in the XVII century, Marquês de Pombal, at the creation of Real Companhia Velha, was aware of the value of Lourinhã’s brandies.
Despite it had been used by the best houses for more than 200 years, to fortify their wines, it was only in 1992 that the Demarcated Region of Wine Brandy of Lourinhã was created.
Since then, brandies from this region are the only Portuguese Brandies with an exclusive demarcated region. Moreover, there are only two more regions like this in the world: the famous Cognac and Armagnac, in France!
