Cameron Douglas MS, tasting note published in October 27th 2022

The bouquet of this wine reflects the place and time, starting with dry stone minerality, followed by aromas of red apple and ripe Meyer lemon, fresh and dried herbs, white flowers, and orchard fruits with a lightly tropical note. Dry on the palate, with a fruity core, bright acidity, and flavors reflecting the bouquet including peach, apple, citrus, and herbs, with a mineral touch. Best drinking between 2022 and late summer 2026.

Vineyard: The Taylors Pass Vineyard is located on the northern bank of the Awatere River in southern Marlborough. The average vine age ranges between 14 and 19 years. Sheltered from prevailing cool easterly winds, each terrace of the vineyard has varying soil types: stony gravels nearest the river, silt over gravels in the mid-terrace, and deeper silt over a clay-papa base on the highest terrace. This patchwork of soil types provides the vineyard with dramatically variable ripening patterns.

Winemaking: Entirely fermented in stainless steel tanks using yeasts selected for their texture and aroma. Carefully monitored time on lees contributes to building weight and texture on the palate.

Admired for its fresh acidity and intense zesty aromas and flavors, Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is made to be savoured. The room-filling aromatics and the distinctly fresh character of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc explain its popularity and memorable experience. Dig a little deeper and you’ll uncover a highly expressive wine style, capable of huge variety and differentiation.

Sauvignon Blanc pairs perfectly with fresh seafood such as sautéed scallops or grilled snapper, accompanied by a fresh salad of rocket, goat cheese, and melon.

Wine Enthusiast: Strawberry leaf, lime-lime, and ginger dominate this aromatic white. On the palate, it’s crisp, refreshing, and silky, with what seems like a hint of residual sugar—contributing more to texture than actual sweetness. It would be outstanding with spicy Southeast Asian cuisine.

New Zealand Wine Rater: Intense, steely, and powerful nose with penetrating aromas of nettles, Thai basil, passionfruit flower, nectarine, and lemon zest, with hints of struck match. A concentrated, powerful, and flavorful wine with lush citrus fruit, focused texture, firm acidity, and a long, dry, flinty finish.

James Suckling: Vibrant nose of gooseberry, lime, passion fruit, and guava. Medium-bodied with an intense, fruity, and flavorful palate. Ripe and tropical finish. Drink now. Screw cap.

Falstaff: Immediate and vivid lift of white currant and passion fruit on the nose. There are overtones of pea shoot and a hint of smoke. On the palate, that fruit bursts against a very textured, full, and concentrated body. Sweet citrus—think mandarin laced with lime—steals the show while vivid tropical overtones shine. This is a rich, rounded, and very expressive wine with enough structure to age.
