O Produtor, tasting note published in July 23rd 2024

On the nose, the intensity of citrus notes stands out, accompanied by a slight hint of salinity. The palate highlights the acidity and typical texture of the bical, providing a long and tense finish.

Vadio

Produced from Bical and Cercial grapes grown in sandy and clay-limestone soils, this wine reflects the consistency and freshness characteristic of the finest white wines from Bairrada.

The grapes are harvested in the morning, whole-cluster pressed, and vinified separately. The Cercial ferments in stainless steel tanks to preserve its aromatic vibrancy, while the Bical is fermented in used barrels to add complexity and a creamy texture to the final blend. Both components age on fine lees for 6 months.

“Luís Patrão and his father, Dinis, farm two small plots of white grapes planted in sandy, clay, and limestone soils. Patrão ferments the Cercial variety in stainless steel and the Bical in used barrels, blending the two into this Atlantic-influenced white. Think Dungeness crab to match the vibrant limestone-driven acidity, or sea bass roasted with wild mushrooms in a wood oven to enhance the notes of green apple, light mushroom broth, and lemon blossom. Its mouthwatering freshness lasts for several days after opening — if there’s any left in the bottle.”

Vadio Bairrada Doc

VADIO is situated in the village of Poutena in the region of BAIRRADA. It is a small and family project founded in 2005 by winemaker Luís Patrão, whose essential element is the recovery of traditional grape varieties and the production of authentic DOC BAIRRADA wines. We have three totally distinct small vineyards and an old warehouse which we have adapted in a very simple way for the production of wine. Our wines present a classic style that intends to respect the authenticity of the region and the character of the grape varieties that give it origin.
