O Produtor, tasting note published in June 12th 2020
IT'S A GRAND VIN! The freshness of the 2016 Grand Vin is enhanced by a 0.7% lighter ABV (compared to the 2015 vintage). Very dark ruby colour. - On the nose, vanilla and an explosion of sweet and ripe cassis. - This is our proposal for a great wine from the Helan Mountain region of Ningxia. Opulent, luscious and with enormous character and body - this wine lifts you up with its power. It evokes a myriad of food pairing ideas, from a succulent steak, a duck confit or a rich mature cheese. The wine is a statement for the region with its beauty, fruit power, tannins, flavour, style and a long finish. However, it also encompasses elements of elegance and refinement. - If you taste it blind with friends - against the best Cabernet wines from around the world, I think you will be pleasantly surprised and amazed - it is a real experience to discover a new wine region, emerging in the desert of northern China in Ningxia. It is no accident that the region and the Château itself exhibit rare beauty.
The Château Grand VIN represents the latest generation of top wines from China – and belonging to the best in the world!
– 2016 was a truly fantastic year in Ningxia – 2016 is richer, more flavour and tannins than the other great year of 2015 – Vines between 12 – 18 years old – 100% Cabernet Sauvignon (small, healthy berries with brown seeds and 24 -25 brix) – Aged in barrels (5 different barrels, French, medium toast, 80% first use) in the Château’s “cellar” for 24 months – Cultivation, fermentation and blending under the supervision of Lenz M. Moser (Chief Winemaker Chateau Changyu Moser XV) who spends the entire harvest period in Ningxia – and a total of 5 times at the Chateau – ca. 3 months in total per year.
Chateau Changyu Moser XV
The principle idea of this château is the cooperation between CHANGYU as the pioneering premiere Chinese winery and the European/Austrian Moser Family: a challenging and exciting combination of Chinese emergence to the global wine world, aspiring to belong in the company of the world’s finest and of the European spirit for excellence of 15 generations in wine. Despite of all the difference in culture from two worlds, CHANGYU and Lenz M. Moser became partners 12 years ago and still share the same vision: being the first from China in going global and establish CHATEAU CHANGYU MOSER XV as the leading château from China.
