Quinta do Portal
The Quinta do Portal Grand Reserve White Wine is born from the blend of various white grape varieties, with the main ones being Gouveio, Viosinho, and Rabigato.
The 2019/2020 viticultural year was characterized by its warmth and dryness. However, April was very rainy, which allowed the soils to be replenished to withstand the very hot and dry weather in July and August. July was even considered the hottest since 1931! We thus had a vegetative cycle that once again forced us to start harvesting in August. This is the fourth time in the last 6 years, and the 6th since the first time in 2009.
It was a challenging harvest, especially for interpreting the ripening of white grapes, but we managed to harvest with good acidity and avoid high sugar concentrations. The white wines, which were very closed during the harvest, emerge full of vibrant and seductive aromas.
In summary: great wines on the way in a once again atypical year!
Vinification: Alcoholic fermentation. Partial fermentation in stainless steel tanks, with finishing in old oak barrels.
Aging: In the same barrels for 22 months. Bottling: February 2023.
A very versatile wine. Do not limit yourself to fish and seafood, and dare to try pairings typically attributed to red wines! Do not forget hard cheese.
