O Produtor, tasting note published in May 27th 2020

Delicate aroma, in harmony with some notes of stone and light notes of white fruit. Structured, with good volume of mouth, it is a white with presence, supported by a good acidity and a strong mineral component. Provides a delicate finish of the mouth, with notes of fresh fruit and herbs.

Quinta de Saes

This wine comes from 5 to 20-year-old vineyards, about 5000 feet per hectare, located 500 m high and planted on granite soils with sand lines. The wine year was marked by dry winter, where precipitation levels were much lower than the average of the last 30 years. It was followed by a hot, dry spring with heat waves that lasted until the beginning of summer. This situation continued during the summer, which gave rise to an early beginning of harvest, being particularly intense and of very short duration. After a few hours of skin contact on the day of the harvest, a very slow fermentation is followed. The 2 month batonage caused a good volume increase that combines quite well with its acidity and minerality.

Quinta da Pellada

The first historical references about Quinta da Pellada seem to be around 1570. The Dão wine region was established in 1908, framed by three mountain ranges – Buçaco, Caramulo and Serra da Estrela – and preserve from the Atlantic winds, the region as very special climatic conditions and this producer Alvaro Castro is one of the best Portuguese producers and unquestionable leader in Dão wine region. For the Quinta da Pellada come mainly grapes “field blend” from the old vines, but also the Touriga Nacional and Tinta Roriz, where it discovers the intense fruit and freshness from the farm grapes that give the name to this wine.
