Quinta D’Azinheira
Region: Douro – Baixo Corgo sub-region
Production site: Quinta D’Azinheira is located in the authentic village of Azinheira (Santa Marta de Penaguião), in a stunning natural amphitheatre on the left bank of the Corgo River. Production is exclusively based on estate-grown grapes, cultivated at altitudes between 300 and 400 metres.
Vineyard: One of the estate’s most valuable legacies is its old vines, aged between 40 and 80 years. Planted on schist soils with high stoniness, they bring depth and character to the wine.
Harvest and winemaking: Grapes were hand-harvested at optimal ripeness and transported in 20 kg boxes. After rigorous manual sorting, they were destemmed and gently crushed. Pressing was carried out in a vertical press. The must was cold-settled for 48 hours at 8 ºC in stainless steel. Alcoholic fermentation took place at 12 ºC for 30 days. The wine then aged for 12 months in new French oak barrels, with bâtonnage on fine lees. Bottled in November 2023.
