O Produtor, tasting note published in July 13th 1905
Crystalline yellow in appearance with golden hints. Complex and elegant nose with notes of white pulp fruit well integrated with aromas of toast from barrel fermentation. Rich fruit flavour with good volume and excellent acidity.
The Monte do Carrapatelo Reserve comes from vines planted in soils of granite origin and with some spots of schist and quartz derivatives. Regional Wine Alentejo (Reguengos de Monsaraz).
Vinification started with a soft pressing of the whole bunches using a pneumatic press. After pressing, the must was left in static decantation at 10ºC for 48 hours. Part of the wine fermented in new 500 litre French oak barrels, the rest in stainless steel tanks. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine aged for 4 months in French oak barrels in contact with the fine lees, with fortnightly bâtonnage.
Luis Duarte Vinhos
Founded in 2007, Luis Duarte Vinhos is a family business run by winemaker Luis Duarte and his wife, Dora Simões. It is headquartered on the Monte do Carrapatelo estate, located in the Reguengos de Monsaraz wine subregion in the Alentejo, south of Portugal. With 10 hectares of vineyards, the property enjoys a continental Mediterranean climate, characterized by very hot and dry summers, but with remarkable daily thermal amplitude, which promotes the retention of acids in the grapes, in addition to the development of aromas. Winters are cold and severe and it is this season of the year that most of the rainfall is concentrated. The soils are predominantly slimey, ensuring good water retention, which is fundamental for vines during the summer months. All viticulture is governed by sustainable practices, with cultural interventions carefully adapted to each grape variety and each plot. All vineyards were planted in 2004.
