Grandjó
Real Companhia Velha owns the Quinta do Casal da Granja, an extensive 160-hectare vineyard located in the small village of Granja de Alijó, where its modern winemaking facilities are also found. The Grandjó brand was created from the fusion of the words Granja and Alijó. This historic brand celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2012 and is currently the oldest brand of Real Companhia Velha still in production.
The estate is located on a high plateau above the Douro River, where fresh breezes enhance the oenological potential of white grape varieties. Among these, the renowned Moscatel Galego stands out. Harvested and fermented under strictly controlled conditions, the white musts yield aromatic and refreshing wines.
The Grandjó White Medium Sweet is a classic example of the wines from this region. Sourced from selected plots at Quinta do Casal da Granja, this fresh white wine is a versatile companion for a wide range of cuisines.
The blend is based on Moscatel Galego and Viosinho, with the recent addition of Gewurztraminer to increase aromatic complexity, structure, and acidity.
Vinification
The grapes are gently pressed in a pneumatic press. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperatures. The residual sugar is preserved naturally by lowering the temperature to stop fermentation. The wine is then aged in stainless steel until bottling.
