O Produtor, tasting note published in January 12th 2023

A citrine-coloured wine, marked by intense aromatics with mineral and floral notes, hints of vanilla and spices, and a pronounced yet balanced acidity. It is full-bodied on the palate, with a long and persistent finish.

Dourocaves

Description: Sourced from vineyards across various Douro sub-regions, with diverse soils, altitudes and exposures, this wine is made from traditional Douro grape varieties and aims to express a unifying character that reflects the diversity of the region.

Winemaking: Ripening occurred early, allowing the harvest to begin in early September. The grapes were carefully selected in the vineyard and at the winery, then gently pressed at low pressure to preserve the grape varieties’ organoleptic characteristics and ensure lasting freshness. The must fermented at low temperatures in stainless steel vats to maintain the mineral traits of the soils and enhance the aromatic complexity. It then aged for about 3 months in new French and American oak barrels with bâtonnage.

Dourocaves was established in 1992 and is headquartered in Loureiro, in the municipality of Peso da Régua, in the heart of the Douro Demarcated Region. In its early days, the company focused primarily on the production of fortified wine, supplying some of the most prestigious Port wine export houses, including Gran Cruz, Symington, Taylor’s, Porto Poças, Wiese & Krohn, and Sociedade dos Vinhos Borges.
More recently, alongside its fortified wine production and sales, the company has expanded its activity to include the production of bottled wines for everyday consumption.
