Colore white wine originates from an old vineyard overlooking the sea, where the wind, sun, and salt gradually erode the granite rocks, creating sandy soils where Ansonica has been cultivated for centuries.
The decision to include a white wine in this range came from our belief that we have a source of such unique and exceptionally high-quality Ansonica that it is truly worthy of the name Colore.
Harvest 2023: A completely different harvest from the previous four years, which were marked by high temperatures and hot, dry summers. In 2023, heavy winter rainfall helped restore water reserves, allowing the vines to regain their vigour. The season continued with a consistently mild climate, resulting in wines with excellent acidity, vibrant freshness, and great aromatic complexity. Harvesting began in mid-August and lasted until the first week of September.
Vinification and Ageing: The grapes for Colore Bianco grow on Giglio Island, in the south-facing, terraced Pietrabona vineyard, located between 50 and 150 metres above sea level on the southwestern part of the island. The vines are planted in ancient granitic soils and trained using the traditional local method, Alberello alla Gigliese — a low, modified Guyot system that protects the vines from wind and harsh winters.
All bunches are harvested by hand and transported in small baskets to the winery located in the centre of the island at Castello del Giglio.
The grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. Fermentation takes place at low temperatures in stainless steel tanks for 6 to 7 days. Then, 70% of the must is transferred to barriques to ferment for an additional 10 days without temperature control.
After fermentation, the wine ages for 7 months on fine lees in barriques, with bâtonnage, while the remaining 30% ferments and matures exclusively in stainless steel.
