Bibi Graetz
As with most of Bibi Graetz’s wines, the name is highly evocative — “CasaMatta” means “Crazy House”.
Casamatta Bianco is a wine from Argentario, on the southern Tuscan coast, that strongly reflects the region’s traditional grape varieties and old vineyards. It is a fresh, crunchy, and saline blend that carries the sea breeze with it.
Vintage 2021: the growing season
The 2021 vintage began mildly, with little rainfall in winter. The vines began to bud in the final days of March due to warm temperatures. After a few cooler days in April, the season continued normally, characterised by hot, dry, and slightly windy days. These conditions led to healthy grape bunches, full of fruity and mineral aromas, with remarkable balance between freshness and body.
Vinification and Ageing: Casamatta Bianco is produced from vineyards located between Capalbio and Argentario, on the southern Tuscan coast. The grapes are hand-harvested, destemmed, and gently pressed with dry ice. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at very low temperatures to preserve the wine’s freshness and lasts about two weeks.
After the final blend (Vermentino 60%, Trebbiano 30%, Ansonica 10%), the wines age for 3 months in tank before bottling.
