O Produtor, tasting note published in July 22nd 2018
An impressive Alvarinho, austere and serious, without artifice or frivolity. Complex and exquisite in its aromas and citrus flavors, wrapped in brilliant minerality. Long, deep, still young, to grow in the bottle.
Fermentation in used barrels of 400 liters. Stage on total lees for 9 months with weekly removal followed by a minimum 6-month bottle stage. The Porcela Única wine is the result of constant experimentation by the winemaker and producer. The vineyard that gives it origin has 2 hectares, in granitic soil with a slight slope. At harvest time, only the most perfect and ripe curls are harvested for this wine. The fermentation takes place in new barrels of 400 liters, made of oak from the north of France. A sublime wine, that touches perfection. Key points Very soft pressing of the whole de-stemmed grape. Cold clarification for a long time. Fermentation in new, 400-litre French oak barrels. Ageing in these barrels for 9 months with “batonnage” on the whole lees.
93 pts Robert Parker
Anselmo Mendes was born and grew up in Monção. It was then, as a child, that he became acquainted with the culture of the vine and wine production. The Alvarinho variety, and its wine produced there, immediately became a part of his life, to the extent that, today, Anselmo Mendes and Alvarinho are synonymous.
He graduated in Agro-Industrial Engineering in 1987, at the Higher Education Institute of the Technical University of Lisbon, and post-graduated in Oenology at the Catholic University six years later.
