Vale da Raposa
In the late 1980s, the Alves de Sousa family acquired the approximately 18 hectares that make up Quinta do Vale da Raposa. This estate would become the stage for a remarkable debut: in 1992, the first DOC Douro wine of the property was produced, which quickly won over enthusiasts and received praise from specialized critics. An example of this success? Direct inclusion in the prestigious list of the 30 Best Buys in the World, compiled by renowned English journalist Oz Clarke.
Since then, Quinta do Vale da Raposa has never stopped innovating. In addition to the iconic Grande Escolha, produced in the best years, the estate gave rise to a highly acclaimed collection of monovarietals. Among them, the standout is the Touriga Nacional, winner of the first major tasting of the variety in Portugal and Brazil, and Tinto Cão, which received the only Excellence Award in Douro by Revista de Vinhos in 2000. Today, Quinta do Vale da Raposa offers a complete range of Douro wines – white, rosé, and red – perfectly translating the unique quality of its terroir.
