O Produtor, tasting note published in June 20th 2024

Alvarinho Dona Paterna is a true classic. A wine of great delicacy, freshness, and minerality, with aromas of delicate white fruit, citrus, saline hints, and floral notes.

Dona Paterna

DOC Vinhos Verdes — Dona Paterna

Dona Paterna Alvarinhos were born from Carlos Alberto Codesso’s passion for viticulture, inspired by his father, Manuel Francisco Codesso. With a determined spirit, Carlos planted his first Alvarinho vines in 1974.

Years of hands-on vineyard work, deep knowledge of the terroir, and winemaking experience laid the foundation for the creation of the Dona Paterna brand in 1990.

Located in the Monção and Melgaço sub-region, Dona Paterna is committed to sustainable viticulture, respecting the environment while embracing the latest technologies — enabling the production of different Alvarinho profiles (and other grape varieties) at consistently high quality.

The natural conditions of this sub-region, with its granite soils and unique Atlantic-influenced microclimate, give Alvarinho a singular character. Thanks to high rainfall, atmospheric humidity, mild temperatures and low thermal variation, this noble grape reaches its full potential here. Its rarity also lies in the fact that Alvarinho only thrives below 200 metres of altitude, requiring very specific growing conditions.

Tasting profile & pairings
Alvarinho Dona Paterna is a fresh, elegant wine full of personality. Perfect as an aperitif, it pairs beautifully with seafood, fish dishes, and white meats.
