Quinta de Cidrô
The Douro region is world-renowned for its Port Wines and full-bodied, concentrated red wines. Producing a rosé under the conditions provided by this terroir requires great skill, as it demands a perfect balance in skin maceration — avoiding excessive colour extraction while preserving the delicate aromas and flavours worthy of a great rosé.
It was with this vision that Quinta de Cidrô, located in São João da Pesqueira, was chosen as the ideal site for crafting a distinctive rosé. Its high altitude (550 m) and mild temperatures create optimal conditions for producing a fresh and aromatic wine. The Quinta has become a benchmark for viticultural experimentation in the Douro, with over 150 hectares where native varieties coexist harmoniously with international grapes such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Pinot Noir and the adaptable Cabernet Sauvignon — all enhanced by the winemaking expertise of Real Companhia Velha.
Quinta de Cidrô Rosé is yet another remarkable result of this ongoing innovation. The chosen grape varieties are Touriga Nacional, known for its floral and fresh character, and Touriga Franca, which contributes structure and acidity.
Grapes are hand-harvested and transported in 20 kg boxes. After rigorous manual selection, the bunches are destemmed and gently pressed in a pneumatic press. The must is cold-settled for 24 hours and then undergoes alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperatures (14–16 ºC). The wine is aged for six months on fine lees in the same tanks before bottling.
