O Produtor, tasting note published in April 20th 2021
Vale D. Maria Douro Superior presents a bright and lively ruby colour. The red fruits typical of Douro Superior are incredibly present in the nose, where the aromas of blackberries, strawberries and black cherries stand out, making this wine very complex and intense. The vanilla notes combine perfectly to enhance the velvety texture of this wine which finishes slowly with a long-lasting and deeply fresh finish. Ideal to accompany meat dishes, or even oven baked codfish.
Produced mainly from Touriga Franca, Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and other grape varieties, grown on the slopes of the Sabor River Valley and the Douro Valley in the sub-region of Douro Superior. The vines are between 20 and 35 years old. At Quinta Vale do Sabor, in stainless steel vats for 7 to 12 days, with controlled temperature between 22ºC and 27ºC. Ageing and vinification: In French oak barrels, of 2 or 3 years, for 6 months. Ageing in stainless steel tanks for a further 13 months.
Lemos & Van Zeller
Quinta Vale D. Maria is a very old property in the heart of the Douro Demarcated Region. A small but dedicated team of winemakers and winemakers – Sandra Tavares da Silva, Joana Pinhão and Cristiano van Zeller – try to ensure that each of the Port or Douro DOC wines represents the best that the Region has to offer. The efforts try to be characterized by innovation and differentiation. The aim is that the wines reflect personality, character, pleasure, fun, being directed towards people and the pleasure of life.
