O Produtor, tasting note published in May 1st 2019

On the nose, expressive aromas of ripe black cherry, vanilla, and toasted nuts stand out. On the palate, the silky and approachable Merlot tannins create a full and enveloping texture. The core of the wine is warm and smooth, with notes of ripe plum and chocolate-covered cherry. Cabernet Franc adds freshness and lift to the blend, with hints of cedar and peppermint. A dynamic and harmonious wine with excellent aging potential.

Tenuta di Arceno

This Merlot-dominant blend is sourced primarily from the Valadorna and Capraia blocks, which produce the estate’s most complex and mineral-driven expressions of this variety. Located in the cooler part of the Tenuta di Arceno, these vineyards are naturally irrigated by the stream flowing through the estate. The soils, brown and sandy in texture, have lower than average yields. These blocks are often the last Merlot parcels to ripen on the estate.

Vintage Notes | 2017
The 2017 vintage was characterized by a hot summer with abundant sunshine, which accelerated the ripening of the clusters. As autumn arrived, moderate rainfall and cool nights allowed balanced maturation on the vine. The harvest produced particularly ripe grapes, with low yields and remarkable aromatic and flavor concentration.

Tenuta di Arceno S.r.l. - Società Agricola

Tenuta di Arceno is an ancient Tuscan estate renowned for producing high-quality wines across two classification levels. Its portfolio includes three wines focused on the native Sangiovese grape within the Chianti Classico DOCG collection, and three wines showcasing international varieties under the Toscana IGT designation.

Situated at the southernmost edge of Chianti Classico, in the butterfly-shaped commune of Castelnuovo Berardenga, Tenuta di Arceno is closest to Siena and is often called “the most Senese Chianti Classico.” The estate neighbors other world-renowned producers and is stylistically distinct from those located further north.

The estate spans 1,000 hectares (2,500 acres), of which 92 hectares (220 acres) are dedicated to vineyards, while the remaining land preserves native vegetation, including 50 hectares (125 acres) of olive groves. The vineyards are divided into 63 distinct blocks planted evenly with 50% Sangiovese and 50% international varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Overlooking the vineyards is the ancient walled town of San Gusmè, providing a stunning historic backdrop. Winemaking at Tenuta di Arceno dates back to the 16th century. The estate lies near the confluence of two rivers — the Ambra, flowing north toward Florence, and the Ombrone, flowing south toward Grosseto — an area once central to Etruscan civilization. The name “Arceno” honors this heritage, derived from the Etruscan word archè, meaning “point of origin.”

Philosophy
Pierre Seillan, the founding winemaker, describes himself as a “servant of the soil,” valuing the pure and unique expression of each individual site. The micro-cru philosophy divides the vineyard into 63 small parcels based on specific terroir, soil, and climatic conditions, allowing for tailored care, harvesting, and vinification. Only at the final stage do these micro-crus come together to create complex, balanced wines that faithfully reflect the diversity of the land.
