“This blend of 50 per cent Touriga Nacional with 30 per cent Touriga Franca, seasoned by 10 per cent each of Sousão and Tinta Roriz, is jet black in colour and packed with smoulderingly ripe blackberry and elderberry lushness. Compared with our other Douro red wine in the Top 50 this year, this is a more intensely fruity wine; well-judged oak has brought a note of incense and wax to add aromatic intrigue (but no more). The fruit is fresh and light on its feet, with mountainside acidity; while the tannins are supple and lend a little cleansing ripe bitterness to the back palate. Nothing from the Douro, though, is ever simple or straightforward, and even after the wine is swallowed those semi-wild black fruits continue to haunt.” – Decanter World Wine Awards
Grapes exclusively from old vineyards with foot treading in traditional granite presses. Aged for 24 months in French oak barrels, 50% new barrels and 50% used barrels. Produced in years of exceptional quality and in limited quantities.
