Quinta dos Roques
A wine that pleases both lovers of young, fruity wines and those who appreciate the complexity gained with bottle ageing. In 10 years, it will undoubtedly show greater complexity and be a source of pride for the winemaker.
Vintage and Harvest
The 2019 vintage proved to be very balanced, allowing for the production of grapes of excellent quality.
A dry and mild winter was followed by a spring with less rain than usual, except in April, which saw slightly above-average rainfall. This favoured the absence of vineyard diseases and supported good flowering across all grape varieties.
The summer months brought high temperatures, typical for the season (without the extremes seen in 2018). Two light rainfalls in August and two more in September helped restore water balance in the vineyards, contributing to even ripening and excellent grape health.
Harvest took place from 10 September to 4 October, under relaxed conditions and consistently dry, sunny weather.
The grapes showed homogeneous ripening, excellent health and concentration, with a remarkable balance between sugars and acidity.
Winemaking
Grape varieties: Touriga Nacional (45%), Jaen (20%), Alfrocheiro (15%), Tinta Roriz (5%), Tinto Cão (3%), Rufete (2%), and others (10%).
This is a Single Vineyard and Field Blend wine. All grapes come from the Peach Tree Vineyard, where all varieties are planted together.
Total destemming followed by gentle pressing. Fermentation in stainless steel vats with selected yeasts at controlled temperatures between 28 ºC and 30 ºC. Maceration for 12 days with gentle pump-overs.
Ageing
Aged for 10 months in 225 L French oak barrels.
Bottling
The wine underwent only a light filtration using cellulose cartridges to preserve its integrity. Bottled in August 2022.
