O Produtor, tasting note published in December 4th 2022

Color: Deep purple with violet highlights and great aromatic complexity. Ripe fruit stands out, with notes of blackberries, black cherries, moka, chocolate, and coffee, with the oak perfectly integrated with the fruit. On the palate, it is dense, with firm tannins and lively acidity, providing freshness and aging potential.

Quinta do Estanho

Vineyard: Plots planted between 1932 and 1970, with a density of 8,850 plants/ha. Located on the steep slopes of the Rio Pinhão at 300 m altitude. Soils of schist origin, poor and rugged, low-yielding but producing highly concentrated and quality grapes.

Harvest 2019: Cold and dry winter with little rainfall. Spring with abundant rain, replenishing soil water reserves. Unstable weather at the end of May, with heavy rain during flowering, causing some production loss and delayed vegetative cycle. High disease pressure, requiring careful vineyard management. Summer started wet, but a hot and dry August helped regularize grape maturation. A warm September accelerated ripening. Resulting wines were concentrated, balanced, and exceptionally elegant.

Vinification: Old vines with around thirty identified varieties. Hand-harvested in 20 kg boxes. Careful manual selection. Destemming and gentle foot-treading in small lagares. Cold maceration for 5 days. Fermentation with indigenous yeasts, started slowly and extended over 10 days with daily delestage. Post-fermentation maceration for 30 days. Aged 24 months in new French oak barrels.

Winemaker: Luís Leocádio

Limited Production: 3,600 numbered bottles, from the best barrels of the lot.

Service and Pairing: Enjoy with intensely flavored dishes such as game, red meats, and aged cheeses.
