Pretexto
Pretexto is a Portuguese red wine produced with its own grapes from different vineyards in the Dão region. In 2019, these grapes came 50% from Penalva do Castelo (Jaen, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Roriz) from vineyards located at an altitude of 550-620 metres on quartz and clay soils and 50% from Vila Nova de Tazem (Touriga Nacional) from vineyards located on granitic soils and at an altitude of 480-550 metres. All these vineyards are currently being converted to organic certification. Harvesting at Penalva do Castelo took place on 16 and 17 September and at Vila Nova de Tazem on 21 and 22 September, in a year marked by a warm winter but a dry, cool spring that ensured good monitoring and facilitated work in the vineyards. Summer 2019 was marked by cool nights and hot days, resulting in slow ripening and grapes with very expressive acidity. Pretext red 2019 was fermented in stainless steel tanks with 30% whole bunches, followed by a 30-day vatting period. The Jaen, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Roriz varieties were co-fermented, along with Jaen and Touriga Nacional. The final blend was matured in French oak vats (5000 litres) and barrels for 11 months. Natural stabilisation.
