O Produtor, tasting note published in March 5th 2020
Very light in colour, 2019 shows a fresh and floral profile, very frank and expressive. The character of Baga and Bairrada are well present, with good notes of strawberry, dried roses and some spices. The aroma is involved in a mineral profile that takes us back to limestone and a markedly Atlantic climate. Fresh, direct and very seductive, it is a wine that does not weigh, a wine that is easily drunk and always invites us for another glass. Very versatile in the gastronomic connection, where just a table with friends is enough to be successful. Serve refreshed. Pure pleasure! Naturally cool!
The 2019 wine-growing year proved difficult because of the high rainfall between January and May, resulting in a low abundant but high quality fruit birth. Due to the weather conditions, extreme care was needed in planning preventive treatments. The summer brought high temperatures, conducive to good ripening of the grape given the abundant water reserves in the soil. The harvesting of the white grapes started on 27 August and ended with the red grapes on 5 August. October, beneRciando of hot and dry days. Although it has been a difficult year for the reasons already stated, the overall assessment is clearly positive. The wines have a balanced acidity, with a high colour intensity. The high temperatures in August and September resulted in a slightly higher alcohol content, maintaining the freshness and elegance of the wines from Quinta de Baixo.
The Niepoort family has been creating Port Wines since 1842. The first property in Douro was bought in 1987 and Dirk Niepoort started a new Era in the company with the creation of the first Redoma red in 1991. In the last years Niepoort took on the great challenge of interpreting other soils and climates and acquired two properties in other regions, Dão and Bairrada. Discover the Niepoort Triangle which express the different terroirs: Schist (Douro), Limestone (Bairrada) and Granite (Dão).
