Herdade do Rocim
Chronicle #328 José Ribeiro Vieira was born out of a dream, will and love. It is the homage to a Man and to his work. To someone who believed in the land, in the affections and in knowledge. To the courage to write what he thought. This wine is his last Chronicle. The one that was left unwritten.
The typically Mediterranean climate, in the wine-producing sub-region of Vidigueira, where the climatic conditions are the most temperate in the Alentejo, providing an optimum microclimate for the production of high quality wines. The soils are not very productive, of schist origin, with great pedological potential for growing vines and obtaining wines of excellence. Aragonês and Trincadeira grape varieties are grown in ascending monoplane. The rows have an east-west orientation and the grape varieties have the same exposure (west). The harvest was carried out manually in 12 kg boxes. In the winery, the grapes were submitted to a careful selection “berry by berry” in a vibrating selection belt. The cold pelicular maceration took place for 72 hours, fermentation took place in French oak vats and the ageing took place for 24 months in 500 litre barrels.
