Gianni Gagliardo
A classic and profound Barolo, born mainly from vineyards in La Morra, with additional plots in Barolo, Monforte and Serralunga d’Alba (Barolo zone, southern Piedmont). Made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes, it displays remarkable structure, elegance, and excellent ageing potential.
The 2006 vintage was marked by climatic contrasts and a careful harvest, resulting in healthy grapes of outstanding quality. After vinification, the wines showed highly complex bouquets, balanced acidity, and harmonious alcohol levels — in line with the finest vintages.
Each of the 16 Barolo plots was vinified separately. Grapes were harvested at optimal ripeness, destemmed, and macerated for 10 to 15 days, without yeast addition or artificial temperature control. Fermentations followed their natural rhythm.
Following alcoholic fermentation, the wines were transferred to oak for malolactic fermentation and ageing. Weekly bâtonnage was performed until spring. At that point, after blind tastings, the wines were blended to combine the following qualities:
— La Morra: early aromatic evolution
— Barolo: balance
— Monforte: depth
— Serralunga: ageing potential and minerality
The result is a wine with a complex bouquet, firm tannins and well-integrated acidity — a Barolo with depth, character and true Piedmontese soul.
Analytical data: Total acidity: 5.70 g/l | Dry extract: 29 g/l
“The Serre Barolo from Gianni Gagliardo is impressively delicate, with layers of wild berries, red rose, pressed violets, smoke and minerality. The palate is fresh, tannic, clean and beautifully persistent.” – Wine Enthusiast
