O Produtor, tasting note published in May 27th 2017

Intense ruby wine. Berry jam notes, a hint of spice and fresh cocoa. All wrapped in the well-integrated toast of the barrels. The richness of the fruit is felt in the mouth, it is voluminous but the fine tannins also give structure and intensity; The ending is long, rich and persistent.

Wine promotions cannot be combined with other discounts or coupons. Wine Concept: The first wine made by Esporão in 1985. Made from grapes from Herdade do Esporão, it shows the consistency and the rich and typical character of the best Alentejo wines. Label illustrated by Albuquerque Mendes. Agriculture: Spring was colder and warmer than in previous years – ideal weather conditions for fungal diseases on vines, implying extra care in the vineyards to prevent mildew attacks. The cooler temperatures at this time of year provided a longer period of vegetative growth and, despite the warmth from July, the beginning of the harvest took place about 10 days later than usual. Warm weather continued throughout the harvest, fruit quality was excellent and, despite the heat, sugar levels remained moderate, with acidity slightly lower than normal. Vineyards: 17 years old, planted in soils of paraxistous transition granitic nature and loam-clay structure. Vinification: Separate harvesting of each grape variety, destemming, crushing, alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel vats, concrete vats and small marble ponds, with controlled temperatures, pressing, followed by malolactic fermentation in stainless steel vats. Spent 12 months in American (60%) and French (40%) oak barrels. After bottling, another 8 months of aging in bottle followed.
