Domaine Pierre Usseglio
We make a traditional Châteauneuf-du-Pape red wine.
Half of our vineyards are over 65 years old, the other half about 40 years old. The yields obtained are very low, around 20 to 25 hectolitres per hectare, depending on the vintage. The harvest is always manual and sorting remains selective. The grapes are destemmed and the vatting process lasts 25 to 30 days.
The wines are then aged 50% in oak barrels for 12 days and 50% in concrete vats. From this, we obtain powerful, round wines with pronounced aromas of red fruits and spices. The 2016 red wines are characterised by very crisp, frank, intense and complex aromas. Depending on where they were grown and their ”terroir”, Grenache-based wines release aromas of raspberry, liquorice, garrigue, candied ginger, black fruit and citrus. The blending of the various permitted grape varieties gives rise to a magical complexity, the subtle result of the interaction between the inherent characteristics of the grape variety and the influence of the “terroir”.
