O Produtor, tasting note published in January 14th 2017

Deep red colour with subtle purple reflections. Fruity nose with aromas of blackcurrant and black cherry, discreetly oaked with a touch of menthol. Clean, full attack on the palate. Good concentration, with smooth, well-structured tannins. Long, very elegant and balanced finish.

A wine that can be enjoyed in its youth, yet holds excellent ageing potential.

Château Tronquoy Lalande

The wines of Château Tronquoy-Lalande stand out for their ability to charm from a young age, while gaining even more elegance with a few years of ageing. Merlot (55%), in harmony with Cabernet Sauvignon (37%), gives rise to fruity and powerful wines. A subtle touch of Petit Verdot (6%) and Cabernet Franc (2%) in the blend adds freshness, finesse, and remarkable aromatic complexity.

The winter of 2015 was colder than in previous years, but spring arrived mild and sunny, encouraging early budbreak. Flowering was rapid and even, taking place between May 26 and June 2. The summer was dry and hot, slowing the vegetative cycle. Veraison occurred early and uniformly, between July 21 and August 10.

Alternating showers and fine weather in August and September benefited the final ripening. The property’s deep gravel soils proved their excellent drainage capacity, naturally regulating water supply to the vines.

Harvesting began with Merlot on September 16 and ended on October 8. Parcel-based harvesting allowed for precise picking at the optimal stage of aromatic and phenolic maturity.

In the winery, the first fermentations in tank revealed deeply coloured and aromatic musts. Extraction was carried out gently, with a constant focus on achieving silky tannins. Temperatures were deliberately kept low to preserve the fruit’s expression and fully reveal the terroir’s character.

Early tastings show great maturity, both in flavour and tannin texture. A red wine of elegance and character.

Château Tronquoy-Lalande

Château Tronquoy-Lalande, located in the heart of the appellation, is one of the oldest estates in Saint-Estèphe. It is named after François Tronquoy, the first owner of the estate, and the location of the vineyard, La Lande, where the historic plot of the Château is planted.

The estate was established in the 18th century around the remarkable château built for the Tronquoy family, following the plans of Victor Louis, the architect of the Grand Théâtre of Bordeaux. This elegant Girondine chartreuse, made of blond stone, is adorned with two side turrets with pointed roofs that emerge from the tallest trees of the surrounding park.

Over the years, various owners succeeded one another at the head of the property until 1968, when Jean Texier and his wife Arlette Castéja-Texier acquired it. Arlette would manage the property for 40 years.

In 2006, Martin and Olivier Bouygues discovered this historic vineyard, renowned for being one of the finest terroirs in Saint-Estèphe. Advised by specialists, they acquired the estate, marking the beginning of a new era in its history.

They then embarked on a major modernization program, which was completed in 2010 with the construction of a large aging cellar and a new winemaking facility equipped with a vertical press and 22 thermo-regulated stainless steel fermentation tanks.
