Quinta dos Murças

Along one of the borders of Quinta dos Murças, currently owned by the Esporão group, steep slopes form a valley. In this area, mostly north-facing and more sheltered from the sun, the wind can often be heard whistling as it passes.

From the vineyards located there, in plots with unique characteristics and at higher altitudes, comes the red wine Quinta dos Murças Assobio.

Made from the region’s most traditional grape varieties, and respecting the winemaking heritage of the world’s oldest demarcated region, this red wine is fresh, versatile, and highly gastronomic.

The vintage: Another warm year, with mild winter temperatures above average and high rainfall. Spring was also hot, causing the vines’ vegetative cycle to advance by about 10 days. As a result, in summer, with good water reserves in the soil, ripening progressed well and the vineyards reached maturity very quickly. We harvested the first grapes for the Assobio red on August 30, with excellent balance.

Vinification: Manual harvest, sorting table, destemming, crushing, cold pre-fermentation maceration, alcoholic fermentation with controlled temperatures (max. 25°C), pneumatic pressing. Aged for 6 months in concrete vats.

Winemakers: Lourenço Charters and José Luis Moreira da Silva.
