O Produtor, tasting note published in September 27th 2022

Opaque colour, loaded with purple tones. Very fruity and complex aroma, highlighting the fine aroma of ripe black fruits, jam and jelly. Round and velvety, full-bodied, warm, with very ripe fruit such as blackberry and blackcurrant; polished and velvety tannins provide a good extension and finish at the end of the mouth.

Vista Alegre

Viticulture: Sourced from Quinta da Vista Alegre in Cima Corgo, from vines over 80 years old, planted in ancient terraces with predominant southern exposure.

Winemaking: The grapes, hand-harvested into small crates, come from a single vintage and follow the traditional method of Port wine production. After partial destemming, they are foot-trodden in stone lagares. Fermentation occurs under controlled temperatures and is halted by adding grape spirit. The resulting wine has great aging potential.

Aging: Aged in large wooden vats, it can be bottled between the 4th and 6th year. When stored under ideal conditions, it has an aging potential in the bottle of up to 20 years.

Consumption: Pairs beautifully with a variety of cheeses and rich desserts with chocolate, cream, and coffee, as well as fresh fruits, red berries, wild fruits, plums, and pineapple. It also pairs well with cured ham and smoked meats.

Once opened, the bottle should be consumed within a few days. Despite its aging in oak casks, pre-bottling oxidation was minimal. After opening and, if necessary, decanting, the wine will reach its peak but will gradually lose freshness over time.

Storage: This is a traditional “unfiltered” LBV, neither cold-stabilized nor filtered. The natural cylindrical cork is similar to that of a Vintage Port. The bottle should be stored horizontally, at a constant temperature, and away from strong light. Over time, natural sediment may form, so careful opening and decanting are recommended before serving.

Vallegre – Vinhos do Porto

Vallegre – Vinhos do Porto, S.A., is a Portuguese company whose shareholders represent the fifth generation of a family deeply rooted in the Douro region, and which is dedicated to the production of high quality Port Wines and Douro DOC table wines.

It is based at Quinta da Vista Alegre, on the right bank of the Douro river, between the mouth of the river Pinhão and Covas do Douro.

Quinta da Vista Alegre was acquired by the Cunha Barros family in 1965, and incorporated into the Sociedade Agrícola Barros, S.A. Later, in May 1998, the company changed its name to Vallegre – Vinhos do Porto, S.A., resulting from the merging of the names of two of its most important Quintas – Valle Longo and Vista Alegre.

Nowadays, and without ignoring its past and the knowledge acquired and passed down through generations, Vallegre is a dynamic, modern company, that mantains tbe production of the highest quality Port Wines and Douro Doc table wines as its primary aim.
