O Produtor, tasting note published in May 27th 2019

Beautiful amber colour, dark. Complex aroma, jam, figs, spices and dried fruit. Round flavour, very soft and very fresh. Fresh, long finish.

Horácio Simões

The ageing process of our house intensifies the fruit, creating a complex taste that is characteristic of the great old liqueurs. This Bastard is ideal for finishing a meal and becomes an inspiration for a good conversation. It is produced according to the traditional method of the great generous in our house. Hand picked grapes are destemmed and crushed, followed by fermentation with maceration of the skins to extract the best constituents. The addition of the wine brandy establishes the balance between the body and the aroma of the wine, being the ideal moment established by the Oenology team after a rigorous control. Over the years, Horacio Simões’ Generous wines are carefully transferred, tasted and analysed and blended based on the teachings left by previous generations. Before going to market our wines are evaluated by the tasters of the family (3 generations must be represented).

Casa Agricola Horácio Simões

The centuries-old Casa Agrícola Horácio Simões is not the largest producer in the Setúbal Peninsula, but it is certainly one of the oldest and most reputable in the region. It is here in perfect balance a traditional and almost handmade approach of the ancestors and a thirst of the contemporary generation to try new things.
The winery at Quinta do Anjo is small and disguised as a villa with a shop and coffee shop, where locals like to stay in the shade in the patio for an afternoon drink. When passing in the street you don’t even notice the winery, especially if the gate is closed.
The house has about 40 hectares of own vineyard and has another 30 hectares of partners’ vineyard, besides some grapes bought in the region. The annual production is about 300 thousand litres of still wines, Moscatel de Setúbal and Moscatel Roxo.
