Robert Parker, tasting note published in February 14th 2019

This bottle of Taittinger's just-released 2007 Brut Comtes de Champagne Rosé was disgorged in December 2018, and it's showing brilliantly, unfurling in the glass with a complex bouquet of blood orange, minty raspberries, red plums, dried flowers and warm brioche. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, chalky and tensile, sharing a racy, chiseled profile with its Blanc de Blancs cousin. Deep, concentrated and tightly wound, the wine concludes with a long, sapid finish. This is an intense, racy Comtes Rosé with a long future ahead of it. As has been the norm chez Taittinger for several years now, the blend is based upon 70% Pinot Noir and includes 15% still red wine from Bouzy.

Taittinger

Produced only in exceptional years, not only for Chardonnay grapes but also for Pinot Noir grapes, this is the rarest cuvée from Maison Taittinger, a legendary champagne about which Rudolf Nureyev, the ballet dancer-choreographer, once said: “…When I drink Comtes de Champagne Rosé, I don’t dance, I fly…”
Made from 30% Chardonnay Grands Crus from the prestigious Côte des Blancs region and 70% Pinot Noir from the Grands Crus of the Montagne de Reims region, the uniqueness of Comtes de Champagne Rosé is owed to the 15% still red wine that is added to the blend. It is a subject of great care and attention until it reaches its ideal state, and the criteria for its creation mean that it cannot be produced on a large scale. Before being exposed to light, Comtes de Champagne Rosé will have undergone more than 12 years of aging in the heart of the ancient Saint-Nicaise Abbey cellars, dating back to the Gallo-Roman era; a maturation that allows this vintage to open with extraordinary energy and aging potential.
Its fruity character and smooth, embracing taste make it a delightful luxury to be enjoyed only in small sips, and it is the quintessential champagne to accompany gourmet cuisine.

Maison Taittinger

The commitment to a name; the soul of a family business with over a century of history.
The story of Maison Taittinger began at the turn of the 20th century. Its goal has always been the pursuit of excellence. “Having our family name on a bottle implies responsibility and strict standards at all times. This signature represents both the savoir-faire of the past and a commitment to the future.”
Pierre Emmanuel Taittinger personified this commitment for 40 years, and he now shares it with his son, Clovis, and his daughter, Vitalie, who work alongside him in the day-to-day management of the Champagne House, which boasts the third-largest vineyard in the Champagne region with 288 hectares of vineyards, certified as High Environmental Value, and encompassing 37 different crus. Together, they form a very close-knit family trio.
“Champagne is the best way of saying ‘I love you’ in any language.” – Clovis Taittinger
