The words “Tradition” and “Innovation” encapsulate the spirit of Sandeman which is linked to a Scots family of Norse heritage whose origins can be traced to Alyth, Scotland as far back as 1567. George Sandeman, son of a prominent artisan of Perth, decided, in 1790 at the age of 25, to join the wine trade in order to become wealthy enough to retire. Having secured a loan of £300 from his father he purchased a cellar of wine, which over 225 years grew into the major concern we know today, the House of Sandeman. His business acumen and his honesty became noticeable, living up to the family motto of “Stat Veritas” – Truth endures. His reputation was second to none, and he frequently did business on a handshake and declaration of “my word is my bond!”
