History and Douro legacy
With roots linked to the Real Companhia Velha, Quinta D’Azinheira became part of the Mesquita family in 1977 through Acácio Morais Mesquita. A man of the deep Douro, visionary and passionate about his land, Acácio believed in the value of sharing and conviviality. The house has always been a place of friends, stories and good wine. Today, his daughter Dora Mesquita carries on the legacy, preserving the family spirit that has always defined the estate.
Visitors never forget the kitchen with its lit fireplace, the sunny terrace overlooking the vineyards, the dogs running around the property and the fruit picked straight from the tree — memories intertwined with the authenticity of its wines.
Douro terroir and wines of identity
With 14 hectares of vineyards between 300 and 400 meters above sea level, planted on very stony schist soils, Quinta D’Azinheira produces wines from grapes grown exclusively on the estate. The vines, aged between 5 and 25 years, give rise to wines of great character and concentration, balance and elegance.
The first wine was released in 1990 and has since gained recognition, reflecting the essence of the Baixo Corgo sub-region.
Today, the project benefits from the expertise of winemaker Luís Leocádio, recognized as the author of some of the ‘Best Wines of the Year 2022’ by Revista de Vinhos / Essência do Vinho, a prestigious Portuguese wine magazine.
