Maria Izabel
Originating from vineyards of traditional grape varieties aged between 15 and 80 years, from various subzones, the 2019 Maria Izabel white wine expresses a unifying character of the various terroirs of the Douro Valley.
“Nature is sovereign, but vineyards and olive groves allow themselves to be cared for by those who manage them.”
Nuno Santos, Viticulture
Winemaking:
The ripening phase occurred later due to lack of water in the soil and heat.
Manual harvesting took place in August to avoid overripening.
The harvested grapes rested for 24 hours in a refrigerated container at 8°C to protect the integrity of the clusters. After a rigorous selection in the cellar, the grapes were pressed with the whole cluster at low pressure. Part of the batch fermented and aged in stainless steel tanks for 8 months, and the remainder in French oak barrels. Alcoholic Fermentation: Stainless steel tanks and lees aging for 8 months / 300L French oak barrels. Partial Malolactic Fermentation (30%) French Oak Barrels.
