The producer, the original and irreverent artists of Herdade do Portocarro, says that this is an "intense and discreet" wine, where you can easily discover the unmistakable flavours of red fruits, mixed with touches of some citrus fruits.
When we are fortunate enough to open the bottle and drink the first glass, a smoothness that impresses above all by the harmonisation of flavours that enriches this experience stands out in our eyes, or in this case, in our mouths.

THE WINE

Herdade do Portocarro is one of Portugal’s most original wine projects. Close to the Atlantic and halfway between the Setúbal Peninsula and the Alentejo, this 142-hectare estate (the vineyard is 15 hectares) produces wine in a region where no one else does. Its owner and producer, José da Mota Capitão, inspired by biodynamic viticulture, has been recovering extinct native grape varieties and experimenting with some of the classic Portuguese grape varieties, giving rise to unique, innovative wines full of personality. Nominated for producer of the year in 2015 and having won the title of “Producer of the Year in 2016” by the most respected Portuguese wine magazine “Wine Essência do Vinho” – Herdade do Portocarro has been positioning itself in the ranking of the best national wine producers.

VINIFICATION

Fermentation in French oak vats with controlled temperature at 13º C.

Herdade do Portocarro

Herdade do Portocarro” is an integral part of the Setúbal Peninsula demarcated region. It consists of a rice field, next to the Sado, where rice with its own brand -Loverice – is produced, and an area of hillsides, where the 18 hectares of vineyards are located.
The name of the estate is inspired in the first place by the existence of a high point, formerly called “car”, located in the highest place of the region. Secondly, by the small wharf that has marked the landscape for many centuries, since the times when transport was mainly by river.
From the beginning, Herdade do Portocarro has been producing deeply original wines. Its first wines – Herdade do Portocarro, Anima and Cavalo Maluco – were immediately positioned at the highest level of national production.
The project focuses on a philosophy of producing high quality wines in limited and exclusive quantities. Wines that impress and enchant, providing unique moments for the most demanding appreciators.
The wines from Herdade do Portocarro have an intense and complex personality, tense and earthy, associated with extraordinary elegance and freshness. They are wines for a sophisticated, cultured and sensitive consumer who seeks and likes to taste the difference.
