Maçanita
Castelão is a caste of low concentration, which has fallen into the background in this era of concentrated reds. Rooted in the Alentejo, it occupies uncomfortably the 3rd vineyard area of the region, although in the wines it is reneged to secondary or extractive roles. The “old” say, that it wasn’t in concentration that her virtue was, but in longevity, “she needs time”! This “Tinto de Castelão” was then given time. Time to tan (about 30 days), time to barrel (24 months), time to bottle (20 months) and…. time to be himself: in his colour, more fragile, in his elegance and in the persistence of his tannins. The result? A nostalgic smile of something from the past.
Vinification: The grapes are gently crushed and moved by gravity into stainless steel vats whose temperature is regulated for fermentation to take place at 27ºC with two pumping over each day. Fermentation is spontaneous.
