The terroir
The vineyards are located in the heart of the Cima-Corgo sub-region. The soils are schistose and very stony. The different exposures and altitudes at which the different grape varieties grow contribute decisively to the complexity and depth of the wine.

Winemaking
Harvested by hand. Transport in small crates to avoid crushing. Partial vinification in the winery using different types of fermentation vats. Long post-fermentation maceration. Aged for 20 months in French oak barrels.

Lima & Smith

It was in 2011 that Marcelo Lima, a Brazilian businessman, and Tony Smith, ex-journalist and correspondent, got together to buy Quinta de Covela, once owned by filmmaker Manoel de Oliveira, but which had been abandoned for two years. The purchase was the fulfilment of a dream for both of them. The previous team joined the challenge, including winemaker Rui Cunha, and the will to do more and better was more than visible.

In the vinho verde region, Lima & Smith operates Quinta de Covela, in certified organic production, in an area which is the birthplace of the Avesso grape variety, recognised for the quality of its whites and rosés. In the demarcated Douro region, it produces wines under the brand Tecedeiras, a brand with history in the Douro. In the Douro Verde, thanks to its partnership with the Eça de Queiroz Foundation, Lima & Smith produces a classic Tormes vinho verde in tribute to the writer.
