O Produtor, tasting note published in August 9th 2018
Colour: deep purple. Nose: impressively complex, with aromas of red fruits in perfect harmony with sweet notes of fresh spices. Palate: has an intense start, evolving into a wine with an elegant profile, with excellent volume in the mouth and silky tannins, all very well integrated with red fruit notes. Finishes in perfect balance, with extraordinary persistence and freshness. A wine made with Bordeaux technology but which does not lose its Douro identity.
The vineyards are located in the patamares of two bards. All the grapes for the Xisto – Roquette & Cazes 2015 wine were harvested by hand and come exclusively from the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior sub-regions. All the grapes were destemmed and transferred to stainless steel fermentation tanks of troncocónico format, where they started the alcoholic fermentation at controlled temperature. During the fermentation process, the French technique of “délestage” was used, which aims to increase the contact surface with the skin when the must/wine is leached onto the masses (cap). The result is a concentrated and complex wine that respects elegance and avoids rusticity. The Xisto – Roquette & Cazes 2015 wine was aged 100% in 225 litre barrels for 20 months.
Roquette & Cazes
The Roquette & Cazes project is above all a meeting of two friends: Jorge Roquette from Quinta do Crasto and Jean-Michel Cazes from Château Lynch-Bages. In 2002, the two families decided to create a company to produce great wines that were marked by the natural characteristics of the Douro and the experience of Cazes who have been making wines in Bordeaux for about a century. A wine adventure “To make a great wine with the Douro grape varieties, a wine that shows structure and complexity, that possesses the power and the sun of Portugal combined with the elegance of Bordeaux”, said Jean-Michel Cazes as part of this adventure.
