Doda
Rolf Niepoort was the impeller and Dirk the creator of this project that began 17 years ago. This wine is born from the idea of Rolf Niepoort, that “the ideal Portuguese wine will be one that aligns the elegance, freshness and longevity of the Dão wines with the structure and power of the wines of the Douro, that can reconcile the fruit of the shale soils of the Douro with the aromas of caruma and minerality of the granite soils of Dão. “This edition results from the union of 60% of a lot of Douro wine, produced in Quinta de Nápoles from very old vineyards, one of them more than 120 years old, and 40% of a batch of Dão produced in Quinta da Pellada, from old vines, with the typical varieties of the region: Tourigo, Jaen, Alfrocheiro and Tinta Roriz. The great part of the Dão lot was vinified in a mill, and then staged in French oak barrels, where it made the malolactic fermentation. About 50% of the Douro lot was vinified in vat and the rest in traditional granite mill, where it was trodden on foot with a short pre-fermentative maceration. After fermentation, the wine aged for 21 months in French oak barrels, where it underwent malolactic fermentation. The Doda was bottled without any addition of glue.
