Cavalo Maluco
Herdade do Portocarro is one of the most original wine projects in Portugal. Close to the Atlantic and halfway between the Setúbal Peninsula and Alentejo, this 142-hectare property (with a 15-hectare vineyard) produces wine in a region where no one else does. Its owner and producer, José da Mota Capitão, inspired by biodynamic viticulture, has been recovering extinct native grape varieties and experimenting with some of the classic Portuguese varieties, resulting in unique, innovative wines full of personality. Nominated for Producer of the Year in 2015 and winning the title of ‘Producer of the Year in 2016’ by the most prestigious Portuguese wine magazine ‘Wine Essência do Vinho’ – Herdade do Portocarro has been positioning itself among the best wine producers in the country.
