Inspired by the famous Pomerol of Bordeaux, the “design” of the first 100% Portuguese Merlot wine began with the planting of a first vineyard in Má Partilha in the 1980’s which was followed by others always in the clay-limestone of Azeitão.
Entirely produced with the Merlot caste, in soils clay – limestone, the climacteric conditions of the zone of the Serra da Arrábida, allow the obtaining of grapes of this caste with strong local personality. A classic, slow and controlled fermentation was carried out followed by a final fermentation in new “Allier” type French oak barrels which contributed to the excellent integration of the aromas and flavours of the grapes and the wood. Further prolonged maturation in the same barrels ensured a complementary complexity of palate.
