Van Zellers & Co
A blend of more than 30 traditional Douro grape varieties from old and newer single vineyards in the Cima Corgo, mainly in the Rio Torto and Pinhão valleys.
The grapes are crushed before and during fermentation. When the must is ready for the addition of grape brandy, fortification is done in one go, adding all the brandy to the must and skins in the press. This is followed by another treading to ensure that all the wine is well mixed and that fermentation is stopped. The mixture of must and brandy remains in the lagar for another day or two, with light treading twice a day (10 minutes each time). It is then transferred to the storage tank with all the wine from the press (we use traditional basket presses). The wines are aged in very old port barrels (over 100 years old) for an average of 10 years.
The bottling date is available on request. Winemakers: Cristiano van Zeller and Joana Pinhão
